Shrine To Detritus
@parsons school of design & uniondocs | multimedia research project | ongoing
When I moved to New York, which is as polluted as it is thrilling, surprising, and alive - I needed to shift my approach to the immense volume of waste I have historically identified as symbolic and literal evidence of a broken system.
I let myself be drawn into the disgusting corners of the city as inspiration for a personal art practice. They pique a curiosity that tempers the anxiety and overwhelm.
It is an unlearning process that plays out in my personal, creative practice; an ongoing ritual of making paper out of detritus, encased in a hardcover of dryer lint and hair...
The book will eventually be placed on the altar I have made to the feral corners of the city life - those we tend to avoid or trample over, yet that make up so much of the city.
